THE PHENOMENON OF THE TIDES

The port of Trouville-sur-Mer lives to the rhythm of the tides. The landscapes are renewed with each ebb and flow of the waters as well as the movement of the fishing boats. The tide is a daily phenomenon.

In Normandy, the sea rises and falls twice a day with a 50 minute shift each day.

The high tides take place at the time of the full and the new moon, when the moon and the sun are in alignment with the earth.

At low tide, we enjoy an infinite space, the horizon stretches as far as the eye can see and at high tide, the waters venture along the edge of the quay and the beach.

Their amplitude can reach 10 m during the spring and autumn equinoxes.

The coefficients

Thanks to the tidal coefficient, professionals and amateurs can get an idea of the importance of the tide and not have any unpleasant surprises when the sea rises. This scale is between 20 (dead water, the weakest) and 120 (fast water at the equinox).
