Boutemont Castle and Gardens — A historical heritage and remarkable gardens

The Château and Gardens of Boutemont comprise a historic castle, a park, and gardens with varied atmospheres. The visit includes the three historic rooms of the castle: the Gothic salon, the loggia, and the gallery.

From the entrance, a majestic avenue of cedars leads to the drawbridge and the postern gate of the castle. Hedges of boxwood and yew create a symmetrical composition, punctuated by two hundred-year-old cedars with imposing canopies.

Topiary art enhances the exploration of the castle and its outbuildings. Hornbeam cones line the moat. A grassy path, bordered by boxwood and yew and punctuated with terracotta Medici vases, leads to a turret of the castle. The reflecting pool, designed by landscape architect Achille Duchêne, is framed by beech and yew trees trimmed in a Florentine style.

The route passes through several green spaces: the Italian Garden, the White Garden, the Zen Garden, the Ginkgo Garden, and the Purple Garden. It continues into the Garden of Love, past the boxwood hedges, and into the park, where the feudal mound, flowering apple trees, and the rose bench are located.

The Labyrinth Garden

Created in 2026, the Labyrinth Garden features a meditation labyrinth inspired by the one in Chartres Cathedral and the oldest labyrinths in history. Its unique path leads to the center, in a design oriented according to the cosmos. This space offers a contemplative stroll as well as a puzzle related to the position of the stars above Boutemont.

New for 2027: a children's playground

A wooden castle, with its towers and drawbridge, allows children to project themselves into the time of knights and imagine their own adventures while having fun.

Bookshop and restaurant

The bookshop completes the visit with a selection of books, local products, and souvenirs. L'Orangerie, a crêperie, salad bar, and tea room, welcomes visitors for lunch or afternoon tea in the orangery, the greenhouse, and on the flower-filled terraces.
