Jacques Cordier Exhibition - From Trouville to Saint-Tropez: heritage and contrast

From October 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025, come admire the new exhibition at the Villa Montebello Museum!

Jacques Cordier, born in 1937 in Montmartre, was deeply inspired by his birthplace. Very early on, he chose to devote himself to an artistic career. Although he took some drawing lessons, he approached painting as an autodidact. His early works focused on architectural views, but his style gradually evolved towards a more atmospheric sensibility.

In 1966, Cordier moved to Saint-Tropez, where he was strongly influenced by the region's bright, intense light. In the early 1970s, a trip to London and his encounter with Turner's works marked a turning point in his career, leading him to explore watercolours with more vaporous accents.

The exhibition "Jacques Cordier - From Trouville to Saint-Tropez: heritage and contrast" traces the artistic journey of Jacques Cordier, from his beginnings in Montmartre to his works influenced by the light of Saint-Tropez and the vaporous atmospheres inspired by Turner. A unique opportunity to discover the evolution and contrasts of his work.
