– A creation by the PMVV le grain de sable company

For the last twenty years of his life, Claude Debussy was fascinated by the strange and disturbing world of Edgar Allan Poe. Two of his Extraordinary Stories—The Devil in the Belfry and The Fall of the House of Usher—were to become operas. With their wry irony and Hitchcockian atmosphere, these stories obsessed the composer, who dreamed of setting them to music.

Illness interrupted this project, but we still have fragments of the libretto, a few musical pages... and the unfinished dream of a genius.

This musical reading mixes texts and music by Debussy inspired by Poe, in a sensitive and mysterious evocation.

Design and interpretation: Philippe Müller & Vincent Vernillat
Musical choice and piano: Monique Bouvet
Original idea: Bertrand Pouradier-Duteil

A poetic and captivating encounter, between fantastic literature and impressionist music.
