Guided tour — Trouville-sur-Mer under occupation

“Trouville-sur-Mer-sur-Mer, the queen of beaches that has lost its smile”

This could sum up the state of mind on June 19, 1940, the start of four years of occupation by German troops.

Four years where the Trouville residents will be confronted with a harsh, austere, oppressive life. As tragic as the events they will experience will be, they will nevertheless keep within them the flame of hope for a soon-to-be freedom.

During this visit, you will discover the daily life of Trouville residents during this difficult period. Changes in their lifestyle, the implementation of military operations such as Operation Seelowe or even the construction of the Atlantic Wall which will transform the face of the beach.

Also to be discussed will be those who refused defeat, who rebelled against the occupation, rejected collaboration and took all the risks for the liberation of Trouville-sur-Mer and its surroundings.

How the town experienced the last months of the occupation, mixing new hope and extreme caution, until the long-awaited day of Liberation on August 24, 1944. Finally, how Trouville-sur-Mer recovered from all these events and what traces remain today of this troubled period in our history.

All of these stories will be told to you during this visit so that this lesser-known period in the history of Trouville-sur-Mer and the people who lived through it are not forgotten.
